ESP32

ESP-NOW

Ultrasonic sensors

MOSFETs

Problem

Coordinate motion detection and reliable lighting control at opposite ends of a staircase.

My role

I designed and installed the lighting system, built the switching circuit, and developed the ESP32 control software.

Outcome

Installed lighting that activates from either end of the staircase.

Design process

I designed and installed a system using ESP32 controllers and ultrasonic sensors at both ends of the stairs. ESP-NOW communication lets either controller activate the lights. I built and troubleshot the MOSFET switching circuit and software for motion detection, automatic shutoff, sensor re-arming, and communication between the boards.

Result

Installed lighting that activates from either end of the staircase.

What worked

ESP-NOW connected the controllers at opposite ends of the staircase. Motion detection, automatic shutoff, and sensor re-arming let the installed system respond from either direction.

What I learned

I learned how to integrate ESP32 controllers, ultrasonic sensors, and MOSFET switching into a working lighting system. Coordinating both ends of the staircase with ESP-NOW helped me understand motion detection, automatic shutoff, and sensor re-arming as parts of one control sequence.
